Unlike any other fishing expedition, the Pelagic School of Fishing offers anglers an exclusive opportunity to learn from the pros in a truly unique, hands-on environment. You will be given personalized on-the-water and off-the-water instruction from our knowledgeable crew on how to locate, hook, fight, and land a variety of big game offshore and inshore species while receiving a well-rounded curriculum on how to prep and rig tackle for a multitude of fishing situations. In Costa Rica, you will be fishing the best and most diverse waters on the planet aboard two of the country’s premier charter vessels, where our captains, crew, and instructors will provide you the opportunity of a lifetime to learn from the best, catch fish, and have fun while doing so.

Dave Ferrell: As Editor-in-chief of Marlin magazine for 25 years, Dave Ferrell put the exciting and beautiful world of offshore big-game fishing into your hands eight times a year. In that position, Ferrell fished all over the world, in pursuit of the best fishing related stories and images.

Ferrell now shares his knowledge of both inshore and offshore species on both the Florida Insider Fishing Report and the Texas Insider Fishing Report, producing the “Off the Deep End” tips segments and the “New Products Work Bench.” In addition to his extensive magazine work, Ferrell also started and directed the world-renowned offshore fishing school, Marlin University, for over 15 years, coaching hundreds of anglers through their first billfish, and now he is ready to share his knowledge and passion for fishing with you.

Captain Andy Moyes: Andy Moyes is a seasoned captain and world renowned lure maker who has spent 20+ years fishing the waters of Costa Rica. Always chasing the planet’s hottest bites, Captain Moyes has fished from Florida throughout the Caribbean, all reaches of Central and South America, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Madeira, Bermuda, and the Azores – to name a few hotspot destinations. Over his career, Andy has logged over 20,000 lifetime billfish catches, with multiple 1,000-lb. grander blue and black marlins to his name. He has won and placed in numerous billfish tournaments around the globe with multiple top captain honors. For more than a decade, Moyes has led annual expeditions to Nova Scotia Canada targeting giant bluefin tuna, where he has caught over 1,000 tunas over 500 pounds as well as many fish over the 1,000 pound mark. Andy is the founder of Moyes Big Game Tactical where he produces some of the finest trolling lures and teasers on the planet.

Captain Tony DiGiulian: Anthony “Tony” DiGiulian is President of Saltwater Professional Consulting. Tony started his career in 1979, aboard his uncle’s charter boat, out of Shinnecock Inlet, Long Island New York. Working for over 40 years in the sport fishing industry as a professional Captain, deckhand, conservationist, educator and consultant, he has led anglers to over 10,000 Billfish captures worldwide, including several ultra-light world records and tournament victories. Tony has called South Florida home for the last 35 years and has worked for some of the top sport fishing operations in the world. He learned his craft from some of the most accomplished Captains in history and has a deep passion for the oceans and all types of fishing. Tony is the Co-Founder of the “IGFA School of Sportfishing”, The Billfish Foundations Conservation Ambassador and an ambassador for KeepFishWet.org. Captain DiGiulian is the lead fishing consultant for the most ambitious Swordfish Satellite tagging program in the world, with the University of Washington and KAUST in the Atlantic ocean and The Red Sea.

Captain Tony “Berky” Berkowitz:  As a native of Texas who has lived in Cabo San Lucas since 1986, Captain Tony Berkowitz has seen and done it all. Driven by a passion to fish, Berky has fished in charter with thousands of anglers of all skill levels from ports around the globe, and this provides him with a unique perspective on fishing and how to help other improve their game. As the first nominated Pelagic Pro Team Captain in 2001, he has a long list of championships in high-profile fishing tournaments such as Whitey’s, Gold Cup, WBC, IGFA, Maui Jim, and Bisbee’s tournament events. In 2012, Berkowitz and his team took first place in what many anglers refer to as the “Super Bowl of Fishing” – the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament – with cash earnings over $2.4 million in that event alone. Dedicating his life to fishing, Tony has spent most of his professional career in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where he founded and maintains San Lucas Yacht Brokerage & Charters. From his home waters of Cabo, to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, to remote blue marlin havens like Cape Verde or Ascension Islands of the Atlantic – Captain Tony Berkowitz has seen and done it all, and he is ready to share his secrets with you.

Ronald “Captain Ron” Kawaja:  Captain Ron is the president and founder of Pelagic clothing company and a world-class angler who has travelled the globe for the past 25 years in search of big fish, exotic fishing destinations, and pure ocean adventure. His voyages have included fishing & competing in the world’s largest and richest sport fishing tournaments; pursuing the elusive “grander” (1,000+ pound marlin or tuna) on rod and reel; and seeking out new untapped fisheries in places like Ascension Island, Australia, Africa, Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, Cabo, Cancun, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Madeira, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Madeira Portugal (to name a few). Over the years, Captain Ron has won and placed in numerous fishing tournaments around the world, including the prestigious White Marlin Open in Ocean City, MD where he was named “Grand Champion & Top Overall Angler” - to win this title, Kawaja competed against more than 2,000 anglers, and finished in first place. As an angler, he has extensive experience in a diverse range of fishing situations, from fighting giant fish up to 1,000 pounds on stand-up tackle, to chasing light line world records, and he credits 100% of his success to all the pro captains and crews he has fished with and learned from over the years.

Offshore Fishing: targeting blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, & wahoo aboard the custom 58’ Garlington PELAGIC

 

Inshore Fishing: targeting trophy-sized roosterfish, snook, snapper, and more aboard the high-speed 32’ Regulator Center Console ROCKSTAR

 

Adventure Day: enjoy a morning surf fishing excursion for snook on a remote beach, followed by an afternoon small boat adventure to a private beach, and ending with an evening snapper session targeting giant cubera.

 

NOTE: anglers can always choose to take a day off while relaxing at the Club Pelagic pool, enjoy an hour-long massage, or make arrangements for a zip line rainforest tour, guided white water rafting adventure, horseback riding on the beach, and a multitude of other excursion options to explore Costa Rica.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

 

Day 1: [Arrival] Explore the Club Pelagic property, relax by the pool, cocktails, welcome dinner & review of week.

 

Day 2: [Day 1 Fishing] 4 anglers offshore, 4 anglers inshore. Dinner at Club Pelagic with optional instructional seminar and hands-on learning experience.

 

Day 3: [Day 2 Fishing] 4 anglers offshore, 4 anglers inshore. Dinner at Club Pelagic with optional instructional seminar and hands-on learning experience.

 

Day 4: [Day 3 Adventure Day] Explore the rugged coast of Costa Rica by both beach & boat while fishing for snook, snapper, & roosterfish. Dinner at Club Pelagic.

 

Day 5: [Day 4 Fishing] All anglers will fish offshore targeting blue marlin, sailfish, tuna, dorado, & wahoo. Enjoy a Costa Rican culinary experience with dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants.

 

Day 6: [Day 5 Fishing] Intersquad offshore tournament amongst all Pelagic School of Fishing students. Dinner at Club Pelagic followed by a recap of the week and an awards ceremony.

 

Day 7: [Departure] Breakfast & farewell
